This fine aroma hop has developed quite the cult following since its release in 2002. Saphir's parents are two proprietary breeds from the Hop Research Center in Hüll, Germany. It is a noble-like variety with a low Cohumulone content (12-17% of AA) and mild bittering. It has a complex character that is a perfect balance between the spice, floral, and fruity elements sought after in German varieties.
Aroma: Juniper, lemongrass, bergamot, strawberry, and black tea
Possible substitutions include Hersbrucker and Mittelfruh
